[Introduction]
I traveled to Shanghai, China, in late May. If I had been fluent in Chinese, I could have enjoyed the trip more, but I was impressed with a fine mixture of retro and modern elements in Shanghai. In this article, I will write about Jin Mao Tower as part of Day 2. The open ceiling hotel lobby seen from the observation deck was gorgeous.

[Main Part]
Bund Sightseeing Tunnel (外滩观光隧道)
Following the previous post, I will continue to walk around skyscrapers in the Pudong District.
I left “Oriental Pearl Tower” and visited “Bund Sightseeing Tunnel (外滩观光隧道)” near the tower.
“Bund Sightseeing Tunnel (外滩观光隧道)” is a tunnel that connects between Waitan and Lujiazui over the Huangpu River with trams running in the tunnel. Although I didn’t have to use it, as I had already moved from the Waitan side to Lujiazui, I tried trams just for fun.
The tunnel was decorated with projection mapping with background music.
I passed another tram moving to opposite direction.
I arrived at the station of the Waitan side.
I will return.
Subways are also available between Waitan and Lujiazui, but if you are interested in the tunnel and trams, why don’t you use it?
Surrounding Shopping Malls etc.
There was a circle overpass near the Lujiazui station and I walked around it.
“Oriental Pearl Tower”, which I visited in the previous article.
There was a shopping mall, “Super Brand Mall (正大广场)”, along the overpass and I stopped by it.
In the mall.
Near “Super Brand Mall (正大广场)”, there was a walkway called “Bin Jiang Da Dao (濱江大道)”.
You can see retro buildings in Waitan across the Huangpu River.
I dropped by another shopping mall “ifc Mall”.
In the mall.
Then, I moved to the next destination.
Jin Mao Tower (金茂大厦)
I came to “Jin Mao Tower”.
“Jin Mao Tower (金茂大厦)” is a skyscraper with the height of 420.5 meters and was opened in 1999. It contains the Grand Hyatt Shanghai hotel from the 53rd floor to the 87th floor and the observation deck at the 88th floor.
So, I moved the observation deck.
I saw “Oriental Pearl Tower” in the northwest.
In terms of shooting “Oriental Pearl Tower”, the observation deck of “Jin Mao Tower” might be the best location, although “Oriental Pearl Tower” was seen from the observation deck of “Shanghai Tower” and “Shanghai World Financial Center” as well.
Among the four major towers in the Pudong District, “Jin Mao Tower” might be the least famous, but it was less crowded compared with the other three towers.
“Shanghai Tower”, which I will visit later.
“Shanghai World Financial Center”, I will visit later as well.
Visitors were able to see a panoramic view of the lobby of the Grand Hyatt Shanghai below from the observation deck, as the building had an open ceiling space from the 53rd floor to the 88th .
I left the observation deck and dropped by a cafe, “八点醒 (8′ Wake Up)”, at the lower level.
I had a cup of ice shavings.
Then, I will continue to walk around skyscrapers in the Pudong District.
[Closing]
That’s it for the article about Jin Mao Tower as part of Day 2.
I had an impression before the trip that “Jin Mao Tower” has the least outstanding characteristic among the four major towers in the Pudong District, but I was satisfied with “Jin Mao Tower” more than I expected. The view of “Oriental Pearl Tower” from the observation deck of “Jin Mao Tower” was better than that from any other spots, and above all, the soaring lobby of the Grand Hyatt Shanghai was fantastic 🙂
In the next article, I will write about Shanghai Tower as part of Day 2.
