Fukuoka Trip Part 10 Dazaifu Tenmangu

I traveled to Fukuoka, in mid December. While Fukuoka has an image of gourmet town, it has also tourist spots more than I expected. In this article, I will write about Dazaifu Tenmangu as part of Day 4. As one of the most famous tourist spots in Fukuoka, I saw foreign visitors the most at Dazaifu Tenmangu in this trip.

Breakfast at ANA Crowne Plaza Fukuoka and Workout at Gold’s Gym Hakata Riverain

It was the fourth day of my Fukuoka trip. To begin with, I will have breakfast at ANA Crowne Plaza Fukuoka where I have been staying. It was a buffet-style breakfast and here is what I had today.Breakfast at ANA Crowne Plaza Fukuoka

After breakfast, I went to “Gold’s Gym Hakata Riverain” following the previous day. I had a workout mainly for the leg today.Gold’s Gym Hakata Riverain

Dazaifu Tenmangu

In the 4th day, I will visit Dazaifu area where “Dazaifu Tenmangu”, a famous a Shinto shrine, is located. First, I moved from Nakasu area to Tenjin area on foot.fukuoka nakasu1

Then, I moved from Tenjin to Dazaifu by Nishitetsu Line.nishitetsu train

I arrived at Dazaifu station. The platform had an atmosphere of shrine.Dazaifu station

Now, I will go into the precincts.""

I saw not only Japanese visitors, but also lots of foreign visitors, especially from Asian countries.Dazaifu Tenmangu1

This main hall was originally built in 919, but was burnt down, and the current building was rebuilt in 1591.""

In Dazaifu Tenmangu, Sugawara Michizane is honored as the god of learning, so many “Ema (votive horse tablets)” were related to praying to pass examinations for high schools or universities etc.Dazaifu Tenmangu ema2

Then, I will go to another destination in Dazaifu, “Kyushu National Museum”.

As one of the most famous tourist spots in Fukuoka, I saw foreign visitors the most at Dazaifu Tenmangu in this trip. The approach to the shrine had a variety of shops, so I think Dazaifu area is a good destination for an excursion from the central area of Fukuoka 🙂
