[Introduction]
I traveled to Hakodate, which is in the north of Japan, and is the largest city in southern Hokkaido, for three days and two nights. Overall I was satisfied with the trip, because I was able to take photos of winter Hakodate in both sunny and snowy conditions. In this article, I will write about evening and night view in Motomachi and Bay area as part of Day 1.

[Main Part]
Bay Area
Now I returned from Motomachi area to Bay area. I will go around Bay area again, including places I didn’t visit in the morning.
To begin with, Old Pier.
Old Pier was built in 1871 and used until another bridge was placed near Hakodate station.
There was a small ship near Old Pier.
Statue of Jo Niijima.
He was a Japanese missionary and educator of the Meiji era who founded Doshisha University.
Here are snap photos of Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse.
Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse is a landmark in Bay area, but there are other facilities tourists may be interested in.
For example, Hakodate Meijikan. This stately red-brick building was built as Hakodate Post Office in 1911. It is now used as a shopping mall.
This is Hakodate Rusama-ya Sweets. It sells a variety of sweets in Hokkaido.
Now I will check in a hotel. The hotel I stayed for my trip was La Vista Hakodate Bay.
I chose La Vista Hakodate Bay mainly because it was located in the center of Bay area and famous for its breakfast (- I will write about the hotel’s breakfast in the next article).
Evening and night view in Motomachi area
I took a rest in the hotel for a while and then went around Motomachi and Bay area to take evening and night view photos. First, I will take photos of churches in Motomachi area.
Motomachi Roman Catholic Church.
Hakodate Orthodox Church.
Hakodate St. John’s Church.
Hachiman-Zaka Slope.
Since Hachiman-Zaka Slope is one of the most famous tourist spots in Hakodate, I found many tourists around here.
Now it got dark and I will take photos of churches with light-up.
Hakodate Orthodox Church.
Motomachi Roman Catholic Church.
Night view in Bay area
I returned to Bay area and took photos around Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse with light-up.
Hakodate shio ramen at Ajisai
I will have a dinner. I visited Hakodate Bay Bishoku Club, which was a food complex and located next to La Vista Hakodate Bay.
There were seven restaurants in the complex and I visited “Hakodate Noodle Kitchen Ajisai”.
Ajisai is one of the most famous restaurants for Shio ramen, with a light but flavorful clear salt broth.
I ordered shio ramen.
With another lens.
Then, I moved back to the hotel and the first day of my Hakodate trip was over.
[Closing]
That’s it for the article about evening and night view in Motomachi and Bay area.
Initially, I planed to go to Mt. Hakodate on the first day to see night view from it, but the ropeway to Mt. Hakodate was suspended all the day due to strong window, so I had to change my schedule. Actually, strong window made felt that the first day was the coldest during my stay in Hakodate, although it was sunny.
In the next article, I will write about Old Fort Goryokaku, which I visited on the second day in the morning.
